So heartwarming to have volunteered at The Ottawa Mission. We helped prepare bacon for cooking and poured salsa into 300 individual containers before serving lunch to people. The men and women were not what I expected. If you have pre-conceived ideas about who in our community is homeless or in need of food, you should volunteer here. It is eye-opening. The other volunteers and staff are wonderful and the people we fed were so polite and grateful, that I was on the verge of crying several times. We had the same meal we had just served at the end of our short shift: hot dog, fries, salad, and yogurt. The Ottawa Mission serves almost 1300 meals each day. Bless them.
